My Favorite Podcasts to Unwind With

I absolutely love music. It helps me focus on work, study and provides great background noise when I’m cooking or cleaning my apartment. However, at some point, I got tired of hearing the top 100 on the billboards or my Discover Weekly on Spotify. Sometimes, I just want to unwind with something that’s reflective but is a learning tool where I don’t have to participate in the conversation (ha). Ya get what I mean?

It wasn’t until late in 2018 that I discovered my love for podcasts. I previously believed podcasts seemed boring and something I didn’t have time for but I was SO WRONG. For me, podcasts serve the purpose of educating myself, broadening my worldview, reflection and really get this adulting thing on the road (ha). Also, even though I love music, sometimes, it doesn’t always get me out of my afternoon slump. Even though I wake up every day at 7am with the goal to be alive and thriving… that doesn’t always happen. Which is completely okay but by playing my favorite podcast when I’m getting ready for work, I find it inspirational. It also helps me set a healthy, go-getter state of mind for the day. Whether you’re in a mid-day slump, it’s the week before a large presentation for class or you’ve been feeling unmotivated, listening to a podcast is a helpful step to unwind and hone in on yourself, set goals and learn. And who knows, maybe receive advice you didn’t know you needed throughout your twenties.

These are some of my favorite podcasts for the hustle and inspiration (These podcasts are not sponsored, they are simply the things in life that I enjoy that help me stay motivated):

Two Youtube best friends, Alisha Marie and Remi Cruz, began this podcast to dish on the things they don’t talk about on their Youtube channels. From anything and everything to boys, friendships, mental-health and body image. I absolutely love this podcast, even though I am not a Youtuber I can relate to the experiences Alisha and Remi discuss about self-discovery and life as a twenty-something woman. If you’re looking for a balance of inspiration but also how to forgive yourself through the mistakes and choices you make then this podcast is for you.

Breaking the rules as a woman in the twenty-first century pretty much sums up this podcast. Hosts, Cristen Conger and Caroline Ervin, are the feminist rage that empower you to live the life you want. From smashing the patriarchy to discussing sexism in politics, Conger and Ervin provide the pep talks you need to be the boss you’re meant to be. Nuff said, just listen.

Soul searching as a millenial, twenty-something? This one’s for you! I love listening to this podcast because Katy Belotte is completely transparent and honest about her journey in self-love, staying true to who you are and how to bounce back when life doesn’t go as planned.

How do I stay updated with what’s happening around the world? By listening to The Daily! This podcast is information overload but in the best way possible. It discusses issues that impact everyone and everything around us: changes in immigration and refugee policies, mass shootings and how social media is influencing your life. The Daily is my go-to in staying informed but also broadening my worldview and in understanding intersectionality on a personal, community and national scale. This podcast is 20 minutes a day, 5 days a week starting at 6am. Another shameless plug (not sponsored) on how I stay informed, is through TheSkimm. By subscribing to TheSkimm I receive information on unbiased current news and policies every morning without the extra fluff.

This is only a small list of podcasts that help me throughout my day. I encourage you to checkout Spotify’s list of podcasts and discover what speaks to you. What are some podcasts you currently listen to?

Style. Sass. Spirit.
