Making the Most of Your Twenties

Oh, your twenties, what a time to be alive. Your twenties are the perfect time to get out and explore hobbies, travel, meet new people and expand your knowledge. Yet, this is easier said than done. It can be easy to fall into a cycle of work, sleep and... work. Being in your twenties is perfect for exploring your own interests but it’s also a tough balance while navigating your dream career, life after college or if you’re just beginning a post-graduate program. So how can you make the most of your twenties while nailing how to do this thing we call “life” and “adulting.” I don’t believe we’ll ever have them completely down but while we ride out life, here is a short list of things that helped me live out my twenties.

Explore Local Breweries: Breweries are always a fun time to wind down by yourself or to catch up with friends. Try new brews while chatting with friends. If you’re lucky, some breweries have board games, game nights, live karaoke or are the perfect spot to shoot some photos. If you’re in MN, my two favorites are Blackstack Brewing in Saint Paul or Surly Brewing in Minneapolis. If breweries aren’t your thing, making an adventure out of your local cafe’s are also fun! Also perfect for brunching.

Have a Recipe Night: Challenge yourself to trying a new recipe. This can jazz up your week if you do a meal prep or make it a friend’s night where everyone is assigned a recipe to make and share. Take a stab at improving your cooking skills but also trying new foods. It’s a win-win. My favorite places to find new recipes are from a Pinch of Yum, houseofxtia, or Buzzfeed Tasty because it’s quick and easy.

Say Cheese: Document your twenties. And by this I don’t mean your daily activities or food and drinks (although if you do this, nothing wrong with it, you do you boo!). I am referring to taking photos of yourself, whether it be selfies or a planned shoot with a photographer. Take joy from being in your own skin and body. Years later, you might wish you had more documented photos of yourself in your twenties.

Get Out: I really mean this, GET OUT. Yes, I am being a hypocrite (LOL) because I agree that staying home to relax and unwind is one of the best feelings ever, especially after a long day or week. However, getting up from your couch for a walk around the neighborhood, spending a night out on the town or just hitting up a local event can also do so much for your mental health and increase endorphins that also improves happiness. It’s all about balance. A breath of fresh air can really brighten your day.

These are just some of the many activities that have helped me get out of the gutter and cherish my twenties. Whether it be a solo trip to a brewery or trying new recipes with friends, they remind me of the little things in life and to be grateful for every moment. What are things that help you stay happy and motivated in your twenties?

Thanks for reading!
